Yeah, if you haven’t read my spiffy “Riex Returns!” post over at THAT, go read it. I feel no need to explain myself twice.

Anyway, I was thinking about dropping t0, but I can’t. It’s too much fun and really just needs (yet again) a revamp in its purpose/use. I’ve decided to keep my more formal (lol @ Riex + formal anyone?) anime related posts (read: lengthy reviews/previews) confined to THAT (to keep Impz happy) and blog about other shit here.

By other shit I mean things both anime related and things *gasp* non-anime related. By that I mean that Movies/Video Games/Books will get added into the mix. Still keeping an “entertainment” focus, but broadening it because…well, because I can. And I want to.

It’s my personal belief that the constant changes here at typeZERO really are just creating a more interesting and open-minded atmosphere for myself and my readers. If you can’t handle a post about Samurai Champloo followed by one about The Dark Knight, then now’s your time to bail out. I know Randall won’t beat me over the head for broadening my horizons, though animenano might.

PS: Look for (another) site redesign soon.

If you always wanted more boobs on your Pokemon, then Sekirei is the anime for you! Get ready for non-stop action full of *bounce* and *nose-bleed* as Minato Sahashi takes on the world in the quest to be the ultimate Ashikabi!

If you always wanted more boobs on your Pokemon, then Sekirei is the anime for you! Get ready for non-stop action full of *bounce* and *nose-bleed* as Minato Sahashi takes on the world in the quest to be the ultimate Pokemaster Ashikabi!

The Story

*yawn* Minato Sahashi fills in the role of typical loser whose life gets changed when a well-endowed girl falls into his lap. He’s failed college entrance exams twice (due to cracking under pressure), can’t hold a job, and [no way!] the women don’t seem to dig him. So I’m sure that when Musubi fell out of the sky and into his lap akwardness, nudity, and buckets of blood were quick to follow.

Loli is in shock.

Musubi is a Sekirei, an A.I. powered fighting machine designed to battle it out with 107 other Sekirei because “there can be only one!”. As it turns out, Minato is an Ashikabi, someone who can “wing” a Sekirei. Winging a Sekirei is basically bonding with it and making it capable of releasing all of it’s powers in battle. As time goes on, Minato finds other Sekirei and wings them as well, as they all strive to be the last Sekirei standing!

Now if that doesn’t get you excited wait until you hear about the real plot: …okay, that actually was all of it.

Watch the trailer! (or CM/PV/Whatever…don’t get technical.)

What’s hot and what’s not.

I hate fanservice shows. I hate wimpy ass male leads in harems that obviously have no balls and serve no significant purpose. I HATE NOSEBLEEDS!!

Get rid of the midget and you’ve got yourself a party.

And yet I loved Rosario + Vampire (wtf, right?).

There’s a lot about Sekirei that doesn’t impress me and it can all be summed up in one word: “typical”. Nothing about it makes it stand out amongst all the other shows that will be airing. It’s got boobs, + fighting + dumb male lead + harem + loli + boobs + nosebleeds + everythingelseeveryotherfanserviceyshowhas.

There’s just something about those eyes…

Left at that I obviously wouldn’t be watching this show, but the tricky bastards had to go and add my biggest weakness, fighting! Not only that, the show looks very well animated, and the small glimpses of “fights” that we see (mostly the parts involving moving and not just watching fancy energy sparkle) are enough to have me chomping at the bit in anticipation. That, and Musubi is pretty hawt.

Predictions

Sleeper hit of the season? No. Popular amongst fanservice fanboys? Yes.

I’m thinking bottom-left gets my vote.

If the fight scenes manage to last more than 5 seconds then I’ll probably get hooked. If they pull a Nabari, then this show can go fsck itself. I’m putting Sekirei under “not watching for the plot” and hoping for the best. Oh, and this show has “Fye_DX” written all over it.

Is your anime filled with blades and people who are immortal? Then it’s probably Blade of the Immortal! I’m writing this first to get it out of the way, and because I don’t want “OMG Blade of the Immortal!” in the comment section of every preview post this summer. Get it out of your system…NOW!

The Story

At a glance, Blade of the Immortal (BotI) appears to be running itself through the standard hack ‘n’ slash routine. Manji, a ronin (rogue samurai) used to be the badass on the block until the day he got one-upped by an old lady. She lays the smack down on him and he becomes “cursed” with immortality. His only weakness lies in a certain strong poison that I bet not many people know about. After getting tired of…you know, living…Manji vows to amend his wrongs by killing 1,000 evil men. Along the way he meets Asano Rin, a girl out to avenge her murdered parents.

I like the manga art better.

So, in the absence of a real plot we make up some bullcrap excuse for a guy to go around killing people. Ok.

Dig a little deeper than that though, and BotI starts to reveal a few intriguing details. Apparently, Manji is kept alive by “sacred bloodworms” (kessen-chu) that are practically “human” without being human. Wha…? My guess is that physically they are close to humans (DNA and such) while they posses no heart/soul/whatever you want to call it. The worms sacrifice themselves to repair wounds and reattach severed limbs, etc. Yeah, it’s pretty gross.

He’s full of worms!

As an added bonus, there’s a guy named Anotsu Kagehisa who’s running around the country stirring up trouble as the leader of the Itto-ryu. The Itto-ryu is a dojo-in-progress that bases its teachings off of using any technique that wins (be it dirty, underhanded, or just all out cheating). Sounds like my kind of place, ’cause when your balls are on the line and you’ve still got stuff to do, survival kicks in and honor goes out the window. Oh, this Anotsu guy is also the one who killed Asano’s parents.

Watch the trailer! (or CM/PV/Whatever…don’t get technical.)

What’s hot and what’s not.

So I’ll go ahead and say it: I don’t like the style of BotI. It looks weird, and I can’t stop thinking that Manji should have his arm around Pocahontas at some point in the video.

I’m convinced that he’s a Native American.

I also think that the basic premise behind BotI is dumb. Kill 1,000 people to lift the curse of immortality. It’s an excuse to show fight scene after fight scene of gratuitous violence. There will be blood, severed limbs, brain damage, probably some wangs chopped off, etc…and all for what? The sake of one guy being able to die.

All that aside, it’s going to have fight scene after fight scene of gratuitous violence. Which means I’m going to watch it. And probably enjoy it. Unless someone gets their wang chopped off.

The Question

With a concept like the one behind BotI, one would expect my foremost question to be focused on the value of life or watching those around you disappear. However, the question the haunts me every time I think about this anime has an entirely different focus.

The face of evil? Or it’s enemy?

How do you define evil? What makes an evil man? To dig up 1,000 evil souls, I feel like there would have to be times when your judgment would go astray. And aside from all that, at what point does an “evil” man become evil to the point of deserving death?

Notes: Paraphrased summary from the BotI wiki and random stuff I read around the web.

THE GOOD (+), THE BAD (-), AND THE ROFLCOPTERUNICORN (U).

I have been (unwillingly) unemployed for ages now, but today I just started working back at the hotel I worked at last summer doing maintenance.

Do you watch anime, bunny-squirrel-kun?

+ Riex gets monies now! Money, whether I admit it or not = me getting out of my house and stirring creativity. And just being waaaaay happier. I already feel it.

- I have less time to blog! But hah…I love this way too much to let work kick my ass. I’m determined to work that much harder and post even more awesome content. Damn right, Riex is gonna show life who’s boss.

U There are way more hawt chicks at the hotel this year. Riex is excited. But I bet they don’t watch anime. According to itsubun, Empress of the Saskue Humpers, not every girl who watches anime is fat, ugly, and a Naruto x Sasuke doujin fan. I find that hard to believe.

Due to the positive response to the Bonen no Xamdou post, I’ll be previewing all the shows this season in a similar format. You’ll get some pics, a PV/CM, and whatever information I can dig up.

Sleeper hit of Summer 2008. You heard it here first.

+ Since I’m single posting on all of these, there are going to be MORE posts than usual, despite me having a job now. I could do one big preview post, but that would be dumb. That’s right, dumb. I like bite-sized, so do you. Bite-sized preview = more comprehension on both of our parts.
- You’re going to have to come back here more often. I know, a terrible thing to have to do. You’ll have to leave more comments too…they keep me happy.
U Did I ever mention that you guys are the most awesome commentators ever? Oh, and there’s going to be more information in the preview posts than in the Xandou one. Why? There’s more information available of course.

typeZERO is now on AnimeNano! And I don’t know what that means!

U I love you guys, but you should invite your friends here. typeZERO is the place to be. I wouldn’t lie to you. <—- See, attention seeking whore.

I’ve been keeping a consistent every-other-day posting schedule, but it’s about to get ruined. Ruined by the 1-2 previews posts coming everyday.

+ More posts! More reasons for you to be here everyday! More reasons to bring your friends! More reasons to keep saying that I’m an attention seeking whore.
- You may be overwhelmed with the awesomeness of it all. Or uber-disappointed when I return to the every-other-day stuff.
U This has nothing to do with anything, but since itsubun brought it up…I AM A MALE. Go look at the retarded pictures on my LameSpace if you don’t believe me.

Notes: First preview post will be up tomorrow. Let the suspense eat away at your soul. Homepage pic/summary for this will come later. YUI rocks. Cows would probably be better tasting if they were purple.

The Forecast: Summer 2008 previews, duh! OSS round 2! And a new series on lessons I’ve learned from anime.

What's next for studio BONES after Soul Eater? Looks like a secret project titled: Bonen no Xamdou. I can't seem to get enough love from the studio that gave me some of my all time favorites (Full Metal Alchemist, Ouran High School Host Club). Chances are I'll be googly-eyed over this one too. Preview material inside.

It’s early and there’s hardly any information out, but here’s a short trailer, some screens/artwork, and everything I know about Studio BONES’ upcoming production.

The Sparse Details:
The story follows a boy named Akiyuki who is heading to school with two friends when an explosion occurs. In the mysterious light from the explosion, Akiyuki transforms into a creature called Xamdou. Xamdou goes on a rampage which is only stopped when a red-haired foreign girl appears.

I’ve enjoyed just about every show I’ve watched by BONES, and quite a few of them have made my top ten (Full Metal Alchemist, Ouran Highschool Host Club), but while I’m excited about a new BONES production, I’m a bit apprehensive about this one. Primarily because I don’t like the mecha/Xamdou designs all that much.

Other than that, the character designs look to be done in the typical BONES style, and the animation is of the top-notch quality I’ve come to expect from them.

Notes: Information/Media was collected from ANN, AnimeSuki forums, and the official Xamdou website. We may be looking at a Fall 2008 release.

REQUESTED FEEDBACK: If you liked this sort of quick, informative preview post (with a few images and a pv/trailer/video of some kind) let me know and I’ll probably hit all the upcoming Summmer 2008 shows with something similar. (You could also rate this post as feedback! It’s there for a reason! Hehe)

Welcome to the first edition of the Old School Showdown. It's a crazy competition between three random animes to find out which one is the best. This time around we've got Noir, Samurai Champloo, and Romeo x Juliet. Or in other words: crazy female assassins, funk-filled samurai, and star-crossed lovers who could potentially suicide. Sound like an interesting mix? Take the jump and let the games begin!

It’s the first edition of the Old School Showdown, and you’re not going to want to miss it. The war of first episodes begins and I get all the impressions and fluff out of the way. Find out all about the OSS on the features page.

All three of these shows are ones that I’ve attempted to watch or been wanting to watch for ages now. For whatever reason, I haven’t gotten around to it until now. Listed below is a quick summary for each show, as well as my initial impressions…consider this the introduction before the showdown begins.

Noir

Series Summary:
The series follows the story of two young female assassins who embark together on a personal journey to seek answers about mysteries from their past. While at first they seem to be only vaguely related to each other, there are clues and hints given throughout the series that they are more than meet their eye. During the course of the series, they are lured into more and more traps by a secret organization named Les Soldats (”The Soldiers” in French).

Impressions:
Noir is by far the oldest of the three animes I’m watching, and it had already been out in the US by the time I figured out fansubs and developed a taste for anime. Thus, though it had always intrigued me with it’s prestigious reviews and gorgeous cover art, it got overlooked because I was poor and held a high disdain for English dubs.

I managed to get a hold of the series (in English dub, but by now I don’t care), and after the first episode I’m already looking forward to watching it. It’s got assassin chicks, a mysterious plot, and sick sound effects. I’d rant more, but there’s a lot to cover in this post and I want to save the juicy details for later on.

Samurai Champloo

Series Summary:
Samurai Champloo is about the journey of a girl named Fuu and her two bodyguards / traveling companions, Mugen and Jin, as they travel across Edo era Japan in search, at the girl’s behest, of a particular samurai who smells of sunflowers.

Impressions:
I must have watched the first episode of this like four times already, but some twist of fate continues to prevent me from getting any further than episode 3-4. Well no longer I say, no longer! I will finish this series, and the OSS will help me focus and get it done.

That said, how do I continue to put this on the back burner? It’s samurais + funk! That’s like…Riex heaven or something. Needless to say, I’m impressed by this show…it’s odd, full of style, great fight scenes, and characters I already list as “PIMP“. Let’s see where it takes me…

Romeo x Juliet

Series Summary:
Romeo×Juliet is loosely based on William Shakespeare’s classic play, Romeo and Juliet along with numerous references and characters from other Shakespearian plays. Though the premise of the adaption differs greatly from the original, several of the play’s themes are still present in the anime.

Impressions:
I love Shakespeare, but I’m not really sure why. Regardless, I got excited after watching a couple trailers for Romeo x Juliet back before it aired. I picked it up right off the bat and mysteriously ended up only watching the first episode. I checked out pictures and such on RandomC, but never delved into the plot or watched any more episodes. It’s time to change that.

As I stated before, I love the craziness that = Shakespeare, and even though the characters in the anime don’t go around conversing in “Shakespearian”, I can already feel an immense, epic undertone that seems present in all of his plays (that I’ve read). A sense that the plot is going to grab a hold of your heart and rip it to shreds…all while a full sized orchestra plays in the background. The animation is great, the art style completely draws me in, the brief fight scenes were adventurous, and I can’t wait for more. ♦

Notes: Summaries are pulled from the Anime News Network. As of right now, I’m not entirely sure which show I’m rooting for as they all seem pretty kickass at the moment. Let’s see if that lasts through the next 3-4 episodes! I think I’m getting better at the highlighting thing…

The Forecast: I’ve still got to get that review for Sword of the Stranger done. Part 2 of Disenchanted and the ED Champs post are also in the works.

Updates: Added Shin’s “Atarashii Prelude” and itsubun’s “itsubun” (lol) to the blogroll. Go check it out! I added the pictures back to the Riex Interviews Naruto! post…now with bonus hover captions.

Man, I've just got feature ideas coming out of my socks. Whatever that means. Take the jump to check out the first edition of the OP Champs, where I lay down the law on what's hot and what's not in anime openings. Alright, alright...so I just list my three favorite OPs from animes I'm watching...give a guy a break, mmk?

I’m a rocker at heart, but you’d be surprised how many non-rockish songs just obliterate the competition when it comes to anime music. Let’s see who takes the cake this month.

Videos are contained within spoiler tags to make the post all pretty like. Just click “Show” to view them…click “Hide” if they wind up scaring you.

Haha! A rock song slides in at #3. The song is CHU-BURA by Kelun, and it jumps right into a sing-along quality verse, to an even more catchy chorus. I find myself mumbling gibberish trying to sing along every time I open a new episode of Bleach. As for the animation…I’d like to call it “feel-good” Bleach. It reminds me of the younger days of Bleach, when everything was still new and exciting and…fascinating (yes I did just Bleach + fascinating). To top it all off, did you see Rukia’s hair!? <3

#2: Romeo x Juliet

I just started watching Romeo x Juliet (spoil me and you WILL DIE) for reasons that will be divulged in a future post (soon). I’ve heard the English version of You Raise Me Up (sung by…Josh Groban?), but I’ve got to say that this version, sung by Lena Park, completely pwns the other one. I mean…watch that and try tell me that you weren’t captivated by her voice and all the lovey-dovey-ness of Romeo and Juliet. I’ll call you a liar. The clouds, the sky, the hopeful expressions…stop toying with me damn it! I know this is a tragedy (Riex doesn’t want to cry!).

#1: Vampire Knight

Show ▼

I freaking LOVE this song. It’s like audio crack. “Akaku akaku akaku yurete…yume no yume no hate e deatte!” I love how it starts off all gansta right in the beginning with that drum beat. Then it just jams out for a bit before rocking right back into that kickass chorus. It’s soooo easy to pick up and sing along to as well. I’m going into a whole rant on Vampire Knight sometime in the future so I’ll hold it in for now…but I will say, Yuuki + purple dress is fine with me. Oh yeah, the song is Futatsu no Kodou to Akai Tsumi (geeze) by ON/OFF. Go…marry it or something.

The Disenchanted series begins, in which I discuss the reasons why anime tends to piss me off. For the first segment, I rant about why it's important to get your SRS Business straight. "You've all seen it before, and I cannot stand it anymore. Nothing pisses me off like an anime that sits on the fence in terms of seriousness. I don't know how many times I've wanted to break something because an anime refuses to take a step forward or take a step back."

I’m starting a series about how I’m becoming disenchanted (or dissatisfied) with anime. I start off by talking about why it’s important to keep a handle on the seriousness in an anime. It’s a long series with long posts, enjoy!

According to dictionary.com, to be disenchanted is: to be freed from enchantment. Gratz on stating the obvious Mr. Dictionary! To continue further, to be enchanted is: to delight in a high degree; to charm; to enrapture; as, music enchants the ear. Some other key phrases include: fascinate, influence, and attract.

That said, over the past year or so, I’ve become pretty disenchanted with anime. Well, probably more with the way a lot of anime is handled rather than the medium itself.

Now, before you go flaming me over why anime is “teh awesumz!”, please note just a few things: I still love anime, and I’m an avid watcher…in fact, I probably watch more than you do; I continue to wade through animes with all the issues I list below, in hopes that they might prove me wrong; this post is based on a personal opinion, I feel we’re all entitled to them…so if you’d like to throw numbers and facts at me, you can go fsck yourself.

Now, on with my disenchantment.

Please, learn to gauge your level of seriousness.

OH NOES HE’S DEAD! Oh wait…no he’s not.

You’ve all seen it before, and I cannot stand it anymore. Nothing pisses me off like an anime that sits on the fence in terms of seriousness. I don’t know how many times I’ve wanted to break something because an anime refuses to take a step forward or take a step back. The games aren’t fun anime, so stop fscking playing them. You don’t fill me with anticipation and excitment…just annoyance, boredom, and an strong urge to punt kittens.

What the hell am I talking about? Here come the examples. I’m going to use shonen, or in my terms “anime wif 1337 fight scenes!”, as the basis for my arguments.

The Good: Bleach, Samurai 7.

I know some of you saw Bleach and went “lol, yeah right”, but hear me out. Why do I list bleach as a good example? Because it almost never takes itself too seriously. When I watch Bleach, I don’t expect people to die, I don’t expect there to ever be any real romance, and I don’t expect the good guys to lose. Bleach has established these “rules”, if you’d like to call them that, simply by sticking to their guns and being consistent. And I still find Bleach entertaining and tons of fun.

Bleach is obviously SRS business.

I think everyone can remember the one time Bleach tried to take itself seriously. We got the horrible Bount arc. We’re given a filler arc and supposed to take the show seriously all of the sudden? Lay off trying to make the plot all emo and stuff and just give us back the action packed shonen we loved.

That’s why I love what Bleach does with the newest filler arc: it does filler Bleach style and says “Hey, we’re taking a break from the regular plot to tell a different tale you’ve never heard before”. THANK YOU! Call filler what it is and don’t try to make up for it by making it “serious Bleach”.

On the other side of a similar spectrum, there’s Samurai 7 (it been a while since I’ve watched it, so if my details are a bit off, forgive me). It doesn’t play games anymore than Bleach does. It takes itself seriously, people die (and stay dead), good guys lose, and any shots at serious romance are ruined because there’s a fscking war going on and people are moving their asses like they’ve got shit to do.

See that black guy in the middle? He was my hero…and he fscking dies.

So I can expect good guys and bad guys to die off. I can expect the shots at romance to get ruined by chaos and violence (instead of a male lead who’s retarded or spews blood at the sight of any woman not in a hazmat suit). A lot of stuff that happens in Samurai 7 happens for the shittiest reasons, but after the first hero dies and you’re like “NO! WHY?” you come to an understanding that it’s SRS Business and it makes the show that much more intense.

The Bad: Naruto, Nabari no Ou

I’m not going into humongous detail on Naruto, mostly because it’s a better example for points I’ll be making further along in this series. But let’s face it…you can’t take Naruto seriously. At the same time though, it’s like the writers are trying to force their not-so-epic tale on you. Naruto’s ramblings of “Sasuke was the first person who acknowledged me”, coupled with him turning around and being a complete and total dumbass make any sort of depth the show could have feel like it’s being shoved down your throat.

Hi, I’m Naruto and I’m incredibly stupid. We all know it, the show even plays it up as “comedy”. But then they turn around and try to hit you with depth and some notion of a serious plot. It just doesn’t work. Akatsuki might invade Konoha! Who gives a fsck? Your village is full of retards and if they all died, they’d somehow get magically resurrected anyway.

Hi, I’m Naruto…and I’m soooo deep.

Naruto is a show that tries to be both sides of the coin and fails, whereas Nabari no Ou manages to pull off both sides of the coin, but just can’t seem to blend them right. Now, I know the show is in the early stages and I may be jumping the gun. But so what?

Take the first episode for example. There’s an enjoyable blend of comedy and lightheartedness that progresses into a few nice ninjas fight scenes. It seems like a promising setup for the series to run with. Episode 02 then drops 95% of the seriousness and turns into a slice-of-life type show, complete with cat saving, train rides, and school lunches. Then in episode 03, all the comedic elements get thrown out and it’s suddenly all SRS business. Arms are broken, internal organs explode, eyes bleed, and it’s all kinds of intense.

On both accounts, Nabari no Ou does an amazing job at fitting the mold of the current episode. But overall? It just bores me. We can’t have people dying off or getting hurt because our distinctly separated slice-of-life episodes just wouldn’t be the same…yet we can’t go all out with those because we have to maintain a serious overarching plot line full of extreme violence.

You’d never expect an anime full of blood, breaking bones, and exploding organs from this would you?

Why does stuff like this bother me? Because of pacing. In Bleach, the pacing doesn’t need to be fast: no one’s going to die, and I’m just here for the awesome fight scenes and good sense of humor. Samurai 7: The pacing stays fast, because there’s a war going down and people don’t take breaks to go shopping when they’re being hunted or chasing after the guy who just murdered their best friend. Naruto: we won’t go there. Nabari No Ou: it’s like stop, go, stop, go, stop, go.

Please, gauge your level of seriousness and stick with it. If you want me to take you seriously, then give me that feeling of urgency, intensity…like time is running out. Make me unsure about whether my heroes can win the next fight. Let them fall and fail…their triumphs mean that much more afterwards. If you just want me to sit back for an enjoyable ride, then don’t toss me around from serious to casual over and over again.

Notes: I tried to stick to wider-known examples for the post, but there was one particularly good example of an anime that gauges it’s seriousness correctly, sticks with it, and rocks that I wanted to mention. Berserk.

The Forecast: I’ve got three posts in the works right now. There’s the second part of this series, a classic episodic review thing I’ll be doing, and a review for Sword of the Stranger.

Updates: Added IKnight’s “The Animanachronism” and blissmo’s “Yukan Blog!” information to the blogroll. Go check it out!

First off, I’d like to thank everyone who’s reading this. Some of you have been with me from my debut at THAT animeblog to my theme destruction at residualmadness.com, and now you’re here at typeZERO. Others may have come later, but your dedication to constantly boosting my confidence and moral (whether a conscious effort or not) has been both consistent and amazing. You’re helping me tune my blogging chi.

Now enough with the emo crap and on to the UPDATES!!

typzero chronology of theme.

First there was the original theme, The Morning After. It was unmodified, and basically used so the site could look kinda pretty with no effort on my part. The came Stripped, the minimalist theme that lasted for all of a week maybe? It was also a premade, unmodified theme I used, mostly because I got fed up with some of the technical aspects of The Morning After.

Now you can say hello to the new, permanent (or as permanent as things on the internet get) layout for typeZERO. The layout is a heavily modified (by me) version of Almodovar +, and I’ve dubbed the current theme Rainbow Unicorn. Yes, you read that right.

Page design/layout

The front page features short post excerpts and information, along with an appropriate thumbnail. This is designed to maximize content exposure so you can get the gist of each post without having to wade through a homepage the size of Texas.

Click through a post on the front page and you’re taken to a single column post page. I like single column themes because they emphasize the content without doing something like Stripped did (make font 400 times bigger).

Page navigation is at the top of the site, and all of the pages have been filled appropriately with no BS. So go check them out, they’re the real thing now! (more on the blogroll below).

The Blogroll

I don’t see my blogroll as numbered figure that I should be trying to constantly raise higher and higher for e-peen purposes. It’s just my way of saying “these guys rock, I read them and you should too”. To that end, I’ve created a semi-unconventional blogroll.

I also feel like a list of websites should contain more than just titles…if someone is worth being on your blogroll, they’re worth talking about. I’ve always intended to do this on a website. However, since IKnight did beat me to it, I’d like to at least credit him for having an above-average, kickass blogroll.

I followed the idea of dasaku.net’s members page for a having a shot of the website included in the list. That’s not a blogroll, but pictures always help.

To top everything off, I even included a “Suggested Reading” section where I offer a favorite post of mine from the site. I’m trying to keep “favorite” within the limitations of a post that is the standard fare at each website.

As of right now Baka-Raptor is the only complete example, but I’ll be filling in the rest throughout the next week.

New Features

I’ve added a few more features (that you can see on this post) to make typeZERO a little more fun and user friendly.

There’s the “Blockquote Intro“. If I had to summarize what’s going on in the post in 1-2 sentences, this is what I’d say. It’s there so that you can quickly understand what the post is about and determine whether or not you’d like to read it in it’s entirety.

Next up, I added a highlighting feature that you’ve already seen in action. I don’t want highlighting to overpower the post, but let’s face it, we all scan articles. Hopefully highlighting will help to snag your attention as you drift down the page.

The Forecast, while not 100% official is just a heads up on what I plan on posting next.

And last, if you look below, there’s post ratings system. This isn’t so much of an e-peen rating system as it is a way to further discover what you like reading the most. Be honest because the feedback will help shape typeZERO (to a certain extent).

[The Forecast]
Disenchanted with anime? Me too. Look forward to a post addressing the reasons for my falling-out with the current spring offerings.

I swear, I change my mind every five minutes. And I did it again. Here’s teh scoop:

I’m currently on a blogging hiatus due to my untimely capture by the Ice Penguins of the frozen north. Valiantly I fought against them, knowing that I had a responsibility to my readers and that hell…typeZERO’s been up for how long and already there’s a hiatus? But alas, my attempts to foil them ended with me getting flipper-slapped around like a fool then forced to dance to some avian interpretation of “gangsta music”.

I’ve managed to bribe the Flipper King (who, as it turns out is a rather nice fellow…forced to act like a badass even though he’d rather just chat over a barrel of fish) long enough to send you this message. In the spirit of urgency, I’ve thrown out the funny business to get you the real hard facts before I’m taken away again. I’m not sure how long I’ll be here, and if anyone can…come save me! Your SRS Business Blogger - Riex

I know, crazy right? In any event, Riex has left his personal assisstant, Xeir (that’s me!) in charge until he gets back. I’m not a great writer, but I can answer whatever questions you may have. I can also cook up a mean batch of chocolate chip oatmeal cookies.

Alright, alright!

There is no Xeir, there are no penguins (yet!), and my reasonings for hiatus are much less interesting than those above. You can stop giving me that look now. Geeze.

Here are the real, if less believable reasons for my hiatus:

After about three months of being sober, I dived right back into my wowcrack addiction. The World of Warcraft and I have a love/hate relationship, but it manages to absorb my time anyway. Initially it was the addition of the latest patch (new shinies!) that grabbed me, but now it’s become the discovery of the one other class I actually enjoy leveling besides those I already have (I has a 70 warrior and druid…working on a rogue).

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as King released on Wiiware yesterday and it’s fscking addictive. More on that in a future post.

I’m becoming disenchanted with many aspects of anime and the current season isn’t offering much in the way of comfort. More on that in a future post.

I’ve really got to get some of my financial shit in order..and this requires time and effort on my part. The stress from that doesn’t compliment my writing style very well unless there’s a new Naruto episode out.

I hate boxes. And I put myself in one despite all the high-saddle ramblings of the last post.

That said, I’ve got some post ideas (if you didn’t catch all the “future post” tags up there) that I should be rolling out within the next week. But typeZERO is going to undergo a few changes that you may or may not like. More on that in a future post. Stick with me, and I promise you’ll see a better Riex before it’s all said and done. This site will be the shit no matter how many kittens I have to punt through glass windows (make sure they bring their helmets KaeBoo!).
